Happy’s Humble Burgatory might be the game that convinces me to play with others
Scythe Studios (formerly Scythe Dev Team) and Tinybuild have unveiled the next game in Scythe’s line of burger horror, Happy’s Humble Burgatory. This follows Happy’s Humble Burger Barn and Happy’s Humble Burger Farm. It launches July 16, 2026.
As in the previous game, Happy’s Humble Burgatory has you manning the grill at a fast food joint while horror happens. You’re stuck in a simulation (a fact well established in the other games), and eventually, your shift ends, the simulation breaks down, and Happy the Humble Heifer, the restaurant’s anthropomorphic cow mascot, goes on the hunt. According to the presser, you then have to escape.
The thing is, this is a 1-4 player coop game. The going name for this kind of game is friendslop, but I’m not calling it that, since “slop” is supposed to mean poor quality, and that’s not always the case in these games (though, sometimes it is).
MAN THE MEAT
Anyway, if you’re familiar with the games I cover, multiplayer is one facet I don’t get into very often. I’m eclectic in almost every other direction, but I have little interest in playing with others, either cooperatively or competitively.
But I’m also a big fan of Happy’s Humble Burger Farm. In fact, I was quoted on the store banner for the game until I pointed out to the devs that quotes on banners is against Steam’s rules (it’s true). Still, that’s how much of a proponent I was/am. However, that was a single-player game, and one of things about it that drew me in was the feeling of isolation that permeates it.
Yet, in my review at the time (I’m not linking to it because it’s on that other site), I mentioned that I thought it would make a good coop game. So, essentially, I got my wish. It’s just that in the intervening time, I soured even further on multiplayer.
At least I can actually play this one, unlike Scythe Studios’ recent VR titles.

CHECKMATE
If there’s one thing that really annoys me it’s, well, let me just paste it here from the presser:
“The game reacts to what you say on the mic. Speak the wrong word, and Asset Joy will hear you. Speak the right incantation, and the kitchen warps. Learn how to use your words to your advantage, and what to never say aloud if you don’t want to anger the beast.”
As someone who is essentially afraid of their own voice, I hate that. I don’t want to interact with the game using my tongue. Not in that way. A lot of games allow you to turn that off, and since Happy’s Humble Burgatory allows for solo play, I’m going to assume that’s true here.
I’ll make the effort, I think. Scythe Studios has created a really sprawling universe that it sets its games in, and that creates a subtle and enjoyable backdrop. Plus, I like busywork games. If I can’t find anyone to play it with, well, at least that have solo play. In fact, that should be enough of a comfort. Yeah. All right, I’m looking forward to it. Maybe even excited.
Happy’s Humble Burgatory releases on July 16, 2026 on PC. You can also grab Happy’s Humble Burger Farm for a week starting today (June 11), and you absolutely should. You should play it.
