Edmund McMillen has confirmed Mewgenics is coming to console, hoping for release this Summer
In a recorded conversation with Maximum Utmost’s own Jonathan “Tatsumaki Senpukyaku” Holmes, Edmund McMillen, designer of games such as Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac, has confirmed that Mewgenics will be coming to consoles (including Switch 2). Further, he has added that Nicalis will be helping with publishing, and they’re “hoping” this Summer for release.
“I would like to see it,” McMillen said in the discussion, “And we’re hoping that it will be by the end of summer that it will be out, but we’ll see.”
Mewgenics released this year, exclusively on PC. It had always been McMillen’s intention to eventually get the cat battler on consoles, but to this point, it has only been teased. And while “I would like to see it” doesn’t sound like firm confirmation, he goes on to add that they had shopped the project around to different publishers, but settled on Nicalis do to their work porting The End is Nigh and familiarity with the engine.
Likewise, Holmes was only able to get confirmation on a Switch 2 release, but both Nicalis and McMillen have already teased a PS5 release on Twitter. So, it’s definitely coming, it might be as soon as the end of Summer, and it will be released on at least PS5 and Switch 2.
There you have it. You’ll be able to check out the whole interview as part of the Maximum Utcast next week.
