Announcing: Podcasts on Maximum Utmost
Goodbye! Or Hello! We’re announcing today the start of an exciting new chapter for Maximum Utmost. Podcasts! And we have a lot of them coming your way soon so look forward to the Maximum Utcast in the coming weeks from Zoey and Jonathan (and more new friends!)
To start things off, we’re showcasing some of the primordial ooze of what the Maximum Utcast will be in the form of the final episode of Jonathan’s old show, “Talking to Women about Videogames” which had Zoey on as a frequent guest.
And who am I to make such an announcement? Well, as you may see if you scroll to the bottom of this page, I am Daniel, the podcast producer for such hit shows as Talking to Women about Videogames, Yeah!, Currently Playing, Talking to My Boy about Videogames, the Spin-Off Doctors Spin-Off Podcast, and Fix Your Heart or Die, all shows I hope you will become more familiar with as time marches on. Every show that I make that is videogame related will get posted about here on Maximum Utmost, so you can always check the main page here when new ones go live. I’m also a musician, but that’s not super relevant today.

Breakdown of the Different Shows Coming Your Way Soon
Maximum Utcast (New!): Zoey and Jonathan will chat with each other about recent developments in the world of videogames and there will be occasional guests and segments such as kusoge chat.
Talking to My Boy about Videogames: Jonathan talks to his son every month about the games they’re playing. Ryan offers the kids’ perspective on a lot of videogames as well as an energetic spirit toward podcasting (and he loves cats).
Currently Playing: Daniel (hey, that’s me!) talks to friends and fans every month about the games they’re playing at the moment. There’s also a recurring segment where guests challenge Daniel to play stuff from his backlog of games.
Spin-Off Doctors Spin-Off Podcast: In a format that’s spun off from a show originated by Steph Sterling and Conrad Zimmerman, this show analyzes extremely deep cuts in spin-off media based on videogames, be they movies, TV series, books, or miscellaneous. The 3rd season is recording at the time of writing but if you like this format, be sure to check out the library of older episodes with topics ranging from Elder Scrolls and Metal Gear to Candy Crush and Total War.
Talking to Women about Videogames (Extended Hiatus): The show that started most of this. One of the co-hosts is retiring from the world of podcasting and so from this show’s ashes we will be reborn as the Maximum Utcast.
Yeah! (Extended Hiatus): Similarly, Yeah! has come to an end, but the back episodes are a hoot if you love music chat that is vaguely videogame related.
Fix Your Heart or Die! (occasionally about videogames): This Lynchian podcast has many voices you’ve heard in the past analyzing movies, TV shows, and videogames through the lens of their connection to Twin Peaks. The show also diverges wildly into episodes about Sonic the Hedgehog from time to time. I’ll only post episodes of this show when they’re relevant to videogames, but it’s a fun time full of equal parts laughs and in depth analysis.
So…the way things are going to work is that the Talking to Women about Videogames feed is going to Animorph into the Maximum Utcast. Make sure you subscribe on your platform of choice:
Apple Podcasts
Spotify
Podbean
Soundcloud (while it lasts!)
RSS
…and like/share/blah blah blah. You’ve heard it all before but doing that kind of stuff really helps fledgling shows find their audience. Alternatively, you can follow as a free or paid member the show’s Patreon page which often posts shows hours or even days early. All of the money there goes toward funding the production of the shows, and Jonathan has been known to mail out comic books to paid supporters on roughly a seasonal basis.

With all of that Welcome Wagon Stuff Out of the Way…
Let’s get to today’s show.
On the eleventy first and final episode of Talking to Women about Videogames (main show! the feed lives on!) Jonathan and Tanya lament the state of the videogames world while looking forward to new horizons. Jonathan interviews Zoey Handley of Maximum Utmost, a once and future collaborator where they talk about “kusoge” or “crap games” and lament about how the enthusiast press mistreated them both. But they’re back, in Maximum Utmost form!
And the announcement that we’ve been holding onto for a little while is that TTWAV and Maximum Utmost will be merging into a beautiful fusion of writing and talking about videogames. The “Maximum Utcast” will be taking over the slot of Talking to Women about Videogames after the fusion dance is completed, so look forward to that on this same feed. Currently Playing and Talking to My Boy about Videogames will remain on here as well, so look forward to those too.
