I don't recall if the buzz around the series was dying down by the time we hit Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. The market was certainly beginning to flood. But regardless of public perception, Neversoft was somehow able to take the same formula and make it even more fun.

Before Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD and before Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, there was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X. I'm finally getting around to trying this Xbox exclusive, to compare it to what came after. What I've learned is that I expected too much, but at least it's THPS2.

It's interesting that one of the most influential games of the '90s was a skateboarding game. Neversoft managed to create something unexpected and uniquely fun about a sport that involves falling down a bit. And now this remake comes along and washes out all the personality. It's interesting in its own way.
