Review – Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

    Zoey Handley / February 1, 2021 / No Comments

A 3D Castlevania has never been executed well, and there are no exceptions. There are just varying ways you can look at them optimistically. I would not look at Lament of Innocence favourably. In fact, I think the N64 titles are more worthwhile, even if there's more jank to be found.

Review – Rampage 2: Universal Tour

    Zoey Handley / January 29, 2021 / No Comments

It's sometimes the small things that make a sequel so much better than the original. Take Rampage 2, for example. Simply changing it so that lives actually have meaning and you can't just continue indefinitely makes the experience feel a lot more satisfying. Plus, you can still eat people off of toilets.

    Review – RoboCop (NES)

    Zoey Handley / January 26, 2021 / No Comments

RoboCop is a great movie, but great movies don't always make for great games. In fact, they rarely have. Especially in the '80s. But does RoboCop break from the standard and become an exception? No, it doesn't, but it's also not that bad. I guess I gave away the review in this excerpt.

Game Complaint Department’s Game of the Year 2020

    Zoey Handley / January 20, 2021 / 2 Comments

2020 sucked for a lot of people, and I’m of no exception. I don’t want to make a competition out of it or throw some pity party, but it was an incredibly trying period for me. The tribulations have followed into this year, but I continue to make an effort to just keep moving on. As such, the Game Complaint…

Review – Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012

    Zoey Handley / September 28, 2020 / No Comments

When the Gods of Quality forsook the Twisted Metal series, others attempted to take up the torch. One was Rogue Trip, a game by the original developers of the Twisted Metal series. But rather than do Twisted Metal but-a-bit-different, they instead decided to try something new. And new it is.

    Review – No More Heroes

    Zoey Handley / September 26, 2020 / No Comments

Travis Touchdown isn't exactly an enviable protagonist, being a bloodthirsty lecher possibly warped by the anime and video games he's obsessed with. However, the fact that he has obsessions beyond adventure makes him one of the most relatable game protagonists I know. Also, the game is interesting. The whole thing is, really.

    Review – Twisted Metal 4

    Zoey Handley / September 22, 2020 / No Comments

Ugh, gosh. Are we at Twisted Metal Black yet? 989 Studios wasn't necessarily a bad choice to hand the series off to, but it's obvious they weren't a very good fit. Their first contribution to the series wasn't very good, and, guess what, Twisted Metal 4 isn't great either.

Dating Adzuken – Amber’s Magic Shop

    Zoey Handley / September 17, 2020 / 2 Comments

The technical difference between an actual dating sim and a romantic visual novel largely just comes down to stats. In a dating sim, you build up stats and go through a progressive calendar. Amber's Magic Shop is a dating sim, but rather than just straight stats, it has a much more interesting approach.

Review – Star Wars: Episode 1: Racer

    Zoey Handley / September 14, 2020 / No Comments

Episode I was a travesty, and I accept no arguments. On the plus side, we got some great games. My favourite is Star Wars: Episode I: Racer, based on that stupidly ostentatious scene from the movie. So much suggests this game would be bad, but it's quite the opposite.

    Dating Adzuken – Seduce Me

    Zoey Handley / September 10, 2020 / No Comments

Have you heard of Diabolik Lovers? Don't look it up. Anyway, Seduce Me is like that but a mansion full of Incubi. It's also substantially less sexy. Like, it has sexual themes, but it's negatively arousing. I tried my best here, but I'm not sure any of us are going home with a boner.
