No way! Farming Simulator 16-bit Edition is getting a legit Genesis port

Do you know Farming Simulator? The surprisingly popular series about running a modern farm with massive farming equipment? Not the Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon brand of farming; the real industrialized sort. The series that has dedicated peripherals to use with steering wheel controllers so you can work your harvester or whatever? The one that has been going strong since 2008? Yeah, it’s getting a port on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. I’d say “for some reason” but the reason is that it’s an awesome idea.

Okay, technically, Farming Simulator 16-Bit Edition already existed as a bonus for the collector’s edition of Farming Simulator ‘25, which released last year. Still, it’s one thing to play a retro-styled game on modern platforms, but it’s so much more meaningful when it’s on the actual hardware.

I don’t have any experience with Farming Simulator. Somehow, I don’t have any of the games in my Steam library. I’ve never played one, and it’s not because I don’t think I’d enjoy it. I probably would. I have a soft spot for SimFarm (I should play that again). I guess I just never got around to it.

But I do love the Sega Genesis. The quickest way to get me to eat my vegetables would be to put them on the Sega Genesis. So it’s got my attention. I’m interested, if only because it looks like a peace-time Desert Strike. Also, Sega Genesis, obviously.

ADDITIONAL COLLECTIBLE CONTENT

Farming Simulator 16-Bit Edition is coming via the Strictly Limited Store, and comes in two collectible versions, “a Limited Edition, launching on May 14, 2025, and a Deluxe Edition, arriving in July 2025.” The Limited Edition comes on a green cartridge, while the Deluxe Edition includes “includes additional collectible content.” Looks like a stand and soundtrack CD. There will also be a non-limited edition on a black cartridge coming to “select retailers.” Specifically, that means Amazon and VideoGamesPlus

In terms of pricing, this is what I’ve got, “The Limited Edition will retail at €49.99, while the Deluxe Edition—which includes additional collectible content—will be priced at €69.99.”

Neat. I’ve said it before, but I love new games on old hardware. I also love new old hardware, and by extension, new games on new old hardware. If you’re just interested in Farming Simulator 16-Bit Edition and don’t care about old hardware (Philistine), you can just buy a digital version over here. Tell me if it’s good.

Zoey made up for her mundane childhood by playing video games. Now she won't shut up about them. Her eclectic tastes have worried many. Don't come to close, or she'll shove some weird indie or retro game in your face. It's better to not make eye contact. Cross the street if you see her coming.
