Is Donkey Kong Bananza Just Minecraft, But Good? – Talking to My Boy about Videogames 12

Talking to My Boy about Videogames is a podcast where Jonathan gets reactions to videogame news and trends from his young son Ryan. The conversations are often chaotic in a charming way and sometimes episodes have cameos from family pets or unseen toys.

Jonathan and Ryan dig deep on Donkey Kong Bananza to uncover what’s great and what’s maybe not so great about it, getting into some interesting theories about characters and contrasting DK with CK (Clark Kent, AKA Superman). Has Nintendo basically been making “good” Minecraft over and over with all their games from the last few years? Do people Ryan’s age care about the Switch 2 or GTA6? Jonathan is excited for Mina the Hollower and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, but can he pry Ryan away from his Minecraft Lego set before Ryan falls asleep? Who knows?!?

Daniel is a podcast producer and musician who spends way too much time in the edit to make audio sound as good as possible. He’s cutting the “umms” and “uhhhs” and replacing them with cartoon sound effects. His taste in video games is often extremely specific, and he’s recently learned that a lot of his opinions about video games are bad and wrong, but that won’t stop him from having them. His music was featured in Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. He's been producing podcasts since 2021.
