Batman: Assault on Arkham (with guest Rose) – Spin-Offs Classic

Back when Warner Bros. used to make stuff, there was a push for cross-platform media to support the Big Things being made as a sort of event. It was standard practice for big companies to send video games out, not to die, but to thrive with an assault on every platform. Maybe you walk past the game aisle and see a new Batman Arkham game and think “that’s too expensive” before heading over to the DVD aisle and seeing there’s a new Batman animated movie. Maybe you’re a big fan of the Suicide Squad comic books and the live action adaptation is still 2 years out so you pick up the DVD and this causes you to check out the video game. That sort of corporate thinking used to lead to fun side projects like this movie getting produced, and it’s actually not half bad for a self-contained Batman story that sidelines Batman quite hard. We’re helped in our analysis of this film with Batman enthusiast Rose (who had previously joined us on our analysis of the Metal Gear Worlds of Power book).

Daniel is a podcast producer and musician who spends way too much time in the edit to make audio sound as good as possible. He’s cutting the “umms” and “uhhhs” and replacing them with cartoon sound effects. His taste in video games is often extremely specific, and he’s recently learned that a lot of his opinions about video games are bad and wrong, but that won’t stop him from having them. His music was featured in Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. He's been producing podcasts since 2021.
